Ever wondered why, when a dog is under the weather, vets invariably suggest feeding Chicken & Rice for a few days when normally they will tell you that a heavily processed commercial diet is the best and only way to feed a dog to keep it fit and healthy? If cooked Chicken & Rice has sufficient nutritional properties to make your dog well when it has become ill while eating commercial dog food, why shouldn’t it provide the basis for a sustainable and healthy long term diet?
Okay, the single protein and single carbohydrate source are not sufficient to sustain any dog in the long term. Dogs, like humans, need balance and variety (along with moderation of course) to survive and thrive. Importantly though, it is a step in the right direction, and perhaps a sign that highly processed commercial food is not all that it is cracked up to be!
