Labrador Retrievers are so adaptable it’s hard to believe that with so many capabilities, we are talking about the same dog. Here are but a few of the Labrador’s abilities:

Retriever
The Labrador Retriever was originally bred as a gundog, in particular, to retrieve fallen game.

Family Pet
The Labrador Retriever’s excellent temperament makes it the ideal family dog. Amongst the best natured of all dog breeds, they are excellent with children and pets.

Companion Dog
While the Labrador Retriever was bred as a working dog with tremendous reserves of energy, they are more than happy to adapt to the more sedentary lifestyle of the older dog owner.

Guide Dog
Approximately 70% of the world’s guide dogs are Labrador Retrievers.

Dog Agility
Intelligent and athletic, Labrador Retrievers are excellent at all forms of dog agility, dog trials and obedience trials.

Disabled Assistance
Labrador Retrievers make excellent assistance dogs for those with disabilities.

Hearing Dogs
Labrador Retrievers make excellent hearing dogs for the deaf and hearing impaired.

Therapy Dog
Labrador Retrievers seem capable of having empathy and so make excellent therapy dogs providing care and assistance for those who are ill.

Police, Military, Rescue
The Labrador Retriever is one of the most commonly used dogs for police, military and search and rescue work.
